John Bolton
The Story Behind the People's Lawyer
Connecticut Roots — John Bolton grew up in West Hartford and has spent much of his adult life in Westport. His father served with the Connecticut State Auditors of Public Accounts, where John learned that transparency, accountability, and public service are essential to good government. Today, John lives in Westport and proudly co-parents his son, Robert.
Education — John earned a Bachelor of Arts from Clark University before returning to Connecticut to earn his Juris Doctor from the University of Connecticut School of Law. After joining the Connecticut Bar in 1990, he began practicing law and has served Connecticut clients for more than 36 years.
A Career Dedicated to the Law —John built a solo law practice in Westport, representing individuals and serving as General Counsel to various corporate entities. He served on the Westport Planning and Zoning Commission, where he addressed complex land use issues, affordable housing, and matters affecting the special needs community.
Lessons Learned Along the Way—John has served Connecticut in many ways throughout his career. He served on Governor John Rowland’s Task Force to retain the Hartford Whalers and later provided pro bono legal counsel to ASPIRA of Connecticut. In 2022, he represented more than forty Connecticut schoolteachers challenging the Governor’s executive order requiring vaccinations for educators, reinforcing his commitment to due process and individual rights.
What Makes Him Different—John Bolton will restore the Attorney General’s office to its constitutional mission: protecting Connecticut consumers, advocating for ratepayers, holding state government accountable, and serving as the people’s lawyer for Connecticut.
A practicing attorney and former Westport Planning and Zoning commissioner, John understands both the law and the everyday concerns of Connecticut families. He is running a grassroots campaign funded by Connecticut residents through the Citizens’ Election Program—not special interests—because he believes the Attorney General should deliver results for Connecticut, not headlines in Washington.
